My trip to the Rain Room!
The Rain Room was opened in 2018 by an innovative company named Random International, and it is stunning! Now I need to say something quickly before we begin that was a bit of a fumble of mine (clearly seen in my vlog). I whole-heartedly believed that the "Rain Room" was in fact a rain museum. As I mention in my vlog, I thought it would be perfect that one of the first two places I went to was a dirt museum and then just a post or two later I go to a rain museum. Classic comedy, am I right? Well apparently I was the only one who thought so because the Rain Room is as a matter of fact not a museum. Instead it is a building that contains a room that uses sensors, cameras, and water spigots to simulate the falling of rain without getting the visitor wet.
The building itself is located in Al Majarrah, Sharjah, and it is a very modern looking building with its cement and brick body encased by windows. As I already mentioned it was thought up and created by Random International which is a company that focuses on inventing creative pieces that simulate interactions between man and machine. The Rain Room is not a new concept, in fact Random has opened up the same attraction in several other places before Sharjah such as London and New York.
Although it is a very innovative idea and could easily be made into a money minter, Random has kept the prices very rational which is definitely a plus. I personally wish that it was a whole museum about rain because I think it would be a lot more informative while still using the Rain Room at the end maybe just to fascinate people after they are done learning about rain, but regardless the room itself is still worth going out for.
The whole building is approximately the size of your average gas station, but its modern style and different look make it just as noticeable as if it was a bigger building. As you walk in the entrance there is a reception desk and cafeteria right in front of you with a funny looking seating area on the left and a downward hallway on your right.
After ordering our ticket we were told to wait fifteen minuets so they could get the room "ready". After spending a quarter of an hour in some surprisingly comfortable chairs we were taken down the hallway that I mentioned earlier by a nice young man who explained the aim of Random International and the Rain Room as we descended into darkness.
By the time you reach the end of the hallway you have entered very minimal lighting, and to your right is a moderately sized room with a small rectangle in the middle with rain falling in it, and a light beam in the back behind the falling rain. The room isn't all that big but then to downsize even more the rain doesn't even fall throughout the whole room, it's just that small rectangle in the center of the room that has rain falling in it.
Now we get to the part where I will stop dissing this nice place because putting aside how small it is, the "Rain Room" is quite an impressive idea that is brilliantly executed. They tell you that cameras and other personal items could be carried in but at our own risk and so because you know me, I'm such a big risk taker, I decided to go in with my photo creating device and hope that they weren't too serious about it. And although it did get a few drops on it it wasn't anything serious and it sure was worth the pictures and videos that I was able to get from inside the pouring rain.
And with the ten minutes that were allowed in there finished we proceeded to exit the room and that was the end of that. The nice man asked how we liked it and talked to us a bit more as he led us out another hallway and back into the waiting area.
So for my finishing thoughts I have to say that i really did like the Rain Room and would definitely suggest that anyone visiting Sharjah try and visit it, it doesn't take much time at all and it is definitely a cool experience. But I simply can't help but feel a sense of something missing, like it just needed that little bit more and it would have been able to make it into my top three places that I have visited for the vlog/blog. However I am not the creator and I shouldn't step on toes that aren't mine to step on, this is all just my "humble" opinion. Aaanyway putting all my rambling and complaining aside, I hope you guys enjoyed and I can't wait for you to see what I have in store for next time. I hope to see you there!
