My trip to the Butterfly Garden!

In 2015 the Dubai Butterfly Garden was opened to the public and there was a lot of hype around it, including special mentions in newspapers and good reviews online. Some of my family members actually visited it soon after it opened and even they had good things to say about it, so this post I decided to go visit it for myself.

The Butterfly Garden is located at Al Barsha South 3, Dubailand Area, Beside the Dubai Miracle Garden in Dubai, and it is the definition of a family tourist attraction. Tickets are a bit pricey but it can be worth it if you like butterflies and you want to give your family a bit of an experience. When you arrive at the garden you walk through a small tent at the doorway where you buy your tickets and then proceed into a courtyard-like area where you can either go left for a seating area with a roof made of umbrellas or right for the actual butterflies.

When you first enter the butterfly building there is a gift shop, coffee shop, and what they call a butterfly museum which is basically a bunch of pictures made with butterfly wings and some cute quotes. While the "museum" is very pretty and probably one of the better parts of the whole building in my opinion, it is kind of morbid to think about how many dead butterflies it took to make all those pictures.

The butterfly habitats are supposed to consist of nine domes plus a garden, but sadly the day was just too hot for me to bother exploring the garden. When you go through the curtains and enter the first butterfly room the feeling is well worth it, you enter into a sort of butterfly mania. You will immediately notice that the bird-chirping and water-sprinkling sounds are recorded and being played through speakers on the air conditioners, but don't let that take away from the amazing initial experience.

There were five rooms that we were allowed into and in every room there were two things; a pagoda-like structure that you could sit in and a lot -- and I mean A LOT -- of butterflies (15,000 according to their website). All the five rooms are for the most part exactly the same; they are all the same size, same shape, and share quite a few of the same butterflies. Once you've made it through the first three rooms the last two rooms are pretty much just more of the same in terms of things to do; especially the last three rooms even have just a lot of one giant blue butterfly which isn't much of a problem considering that it is my favorite.

In between the rooms they have cases with cocoons and butterflies that are still going through their metamorphosis which was really fascinating to me. There are also some coin press machines, which is always a plus in my book, but the most fulfilling experience at the Butterfly Garden is picking one up. I for one thought right from the start that being able to pick up the butterflies was really cool; I never actually ended up holding one myself, but my mom did so at least I got to see what it was like.

All in all I thought the Butterfly Garden was interesting and it is definitely an experience but the price of the tickets and the repetitiveness of the showcases really turned me off a bit. If you like butterflies and you have a family (especially young kids) this is the place for you, but until they diversify the experience it will land an average rating for me. Anyway hope you all enjoyed this post, make sure to comment down below and come back for the next post.
